Addressing the environment in indonesia
The majority of poor people in Indonesia live in rural areas that are prosperous in natural resources. However, these resources are overexerted and inadequately managed which threatens this nations ability to sustain high rates of economic growth and minimize those suffering from poverty and hunger. It is known that one in seven villages in Indonesia do not have access to affordable electricity, which makes the people rely heavily on diesel distribution. "Illegal logging, conversion of arid land for agriculture, water pollution, and other unsustainable land use practices adversely affect the natural assets that people rely on for their livelihoods and well-being." This shows the gases that are emitted into the atmosphere which causes global warming. Ten percent of the $2,400,000,000 will be given to "The Green Prosperity Project" which provides technical and financial assistance to Indonesia specifically for renewable energy and natural resource management in order to raise rural household incomes. This project was created by the Millennium Challenge Corporation and is designed to reduce the reliance Indonesia has on fossil fuels, improve land management practices, protect the natural capital, and enhance efforts t reduce emissions from deforestation and environmental degradation. Although this project specifically focuses on goal #7, there are unique relationships to goals #2, 4, 5, and 6. For example, this project works towards increasing household incomes and when less people live in poverty they will be able to provide better healthcare for their families.
