poverty and hunger in indonesia
Poverty and hunger is one of the few issues that Indonesia continues to struggle with. Indonesia has a population of 240 million, however of these 240 million people 120 million live off of $2 per day which is equivalent to 19374 IDR. The President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, made fighting poverty and hunger one of its main priorities because individuals need basic human needs in order to survive. In most cases, poverty is the root source of hunger which is the reason 28% of Indonesian children are underweight. It is also believed that 44% of Indonesian children are at risk of stunted growth. However, in order to tackle this issue, the government has initiated several programs such as direct cash transfers and other sources of financial support.
